When researching house boats, I was surprised to learn the company Dutch Docklands purchased the rights to build a floating development in a north Miami lake. Maule Lake was a former limestone quarry for Maule Cement. The project has not yet moved forward at $12.5 million per house. Click for Miami Herald article.
Docklands has already teamed with Christies to 185 floating vacation home in the Maldives and has made floating development proposal for Abu Dhabi. More info on Dutch Docklands here.

I was so surprised about Docklands, that I forgot about this existing home in Louisiana with styrofoam foundation and poles to hold the house in place when it rises with the water.
